Driving Climate Action: CarbonShunya & PHDCCI Lead the Harit Urja CNG/CBG Rally 2025

A Milestone in Sustainable Transport

On 21st June 2025, CarbonShunya, a flagship initiative by People4Planet, partnered with the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) to host the Harit Urja CNG/CBG Rally 2025 — a first-of-its-kind event demonstrating measurable carbon savings from clean fuel alternatives in real-world conditions.

This 60-kilometre green rally — spanning from PHD House, New Delhi to Rishihood University, Sonipat — was more than a symbolic drive. It was a powerful statement: India is ready for verifiable, scalable solutions in clean mobility.

Quantifying Impact: The CarbonShunya Approach

What made this rally different was its scientific rigour. As the official carbon evaluation partner, CarbonShunya applied globally accepted methodologies to calculate greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions from replacing petrol vehicles with CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and CBG (Compressed Bio Gas) alternatives.

Methodologies Used:

  • ISO 14083: International standard for evaluating GHG emissions in transport

  • IPCC Mobile Combustion Emission Factors: UN-recognised guidelines for vehicle-based carbon emissions

This allowed us to verify — with full transparency — the climate benefit of each kilometre driven on cleaner fuels.

“We are proud to collaborate with PHDCCI on this impactful initiative. It reflects our commitment to enabling verified climate action and moving India closer to its Net-Zero ambitions.”

Why It Matters

The Harit Urja Drive 2025 sets a powerful precedent — that climate action in mobility can be scientifically measured, publicly demonstrated, and collaboratively executed. It marks an essential step toward making sustainable transport a reality for India’s cities and highways.

At CarbonShunya, we remain committed to enabling verified carbon savings across sectors, and empowering governments, businesses, and citizens to drive climate leadership.
